ONE POEM BY NICOLE SELLERS

ENDORPHIN CITY

Get up, love junkie. The rush hits
in ten minutes. Dawn detonators
crack new mines, muscles pump
espresso in spin gyms. Bees hunt
rooftop lilies, alleys spruik radio-
active sunshine, workaholics
lick past sugar-crusted kerbs to
self-flagellate in cubicles. Ignite,
take a toke, slam out the door.

Get over yourself. Steel forests
hurt too, gulp exhaust, spit tar.
Buskers croak mantras, traffic
dark webs, pimp under pylons,
itch in stone doorways. Hooked
stockbrokers bleed out, swung
numb, glazed, cut up for lunch.

Get into it. Champagne floods
wired circuits. Fresh buzzes sizzle
on the beach, bury you to the neck
in sherbet, electrify your tiny mother-
board brain. Shot breezes blow your
dandelion wish. Swallow that gritty
microchip, dive a dopamine rip.

Get out of the way. Amped drivers
screech violins, bass stomps down
concrete nightclubs, superhero trap-
hop pill-poppers joyride the blues.
Lined-up mirrors offer you roses,
now sniff. Blurred screens drench
dry eyes, flicker porn cartoons, neon
slot payoffs for every broke joker.

More highs ravage the subway – fly
those synapse tracks to the end, you lush
dervish, pleasure beggar, fix mixer, sweat
dripper, death slipper. Rock bottom stops
flash past fast. Get off wherever you can.
