Just for a little variety
But, as always,
That tops the list.
Asked: “Is she your girlfriend?” with adult smirk at imagined puppy love. Makes clear that I am a boy and boys should like girls. But, no, I am not.

A year compressed into few minutes
of long and meaningful interaction,
in a city dreading the face-to-face meetings
over chai in crowded hotels in the Fort section
of a mercantile Mumbai.
The encounters, discussions, smoking outside—now a restricted activity—
and walking down the streets on grey afternoons
whipped by a strong sea-breeze
and late evenings, accosted by fat pimps and tired street-walkers
with heavy makeup and dark rouge
the women, slim or obese,
wearing stilettos and cheap perfumes
dead eyes, swollen lips
clutching purses and hankies
wait for drunk clientele, near the stock exchange or outside
the mega polis now a daily canvas of greed and desire, unresolved
while Baudelaire surveys the labyrinths, inner/outer
bit foppish, talking of Poe and Monet, in the same breath,
his mind hearing strains of Wagner being played by dainty hands
of a friend
…and the honking of vehicles—loud and insistent—and the
look like the innards of a dried carcass.

Hand in love
During the phase of the empty sky
when cats wore human hands
and danced on bolts of sheet lightning
in stiletto corncrakes
I spoke in hoar frost.
The fumes from the watermelon,
silly signals, turned my Adam-eating apple
to a purring citrus rapping to fangs and whiskers.
All white whole they waltzed
as fireballs and water sprouts drinking
the putrescent air and eating sweetmeats
from the milky way.
