Bob Beagrie is a widely published poet who lives in Middlesbrough. He is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Teesside University, co-director of Ek Zuban Literature Development and a founding member of the experimental poetry and sound collective Project Lono. His work has been translated into Urdu, Finnish, Estonian, Dutch, Swedish, French, Danish and Spanish. Recent collections include ‘Leasungspell’ (Smokestack Books 2016, and ‘This Game of Strangers’ – written with Jane Burn (Wyrd harvest Press, 2017). The poems submitted here are from a sequence entitled ‘Civil Insolencies’ which are inspired by the Battle of Guisborough in 1643.
